Maybe you’ve heard of Chia.  No, not the Chia Pet.  Chia, as an edible grain, is a species of flowering plant in the mint family.  Cultivated by the Aztecs in the 16th Century, Chia is grown commercially for it’s seed which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.  It is also a good source of the B vitamins riboflavin and folate and is a rich source of calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, and Zinc.  Because of its nutritional properties, Chia is gaining notoriety in the health food world as an ingredient in smoothies, breakfast cereals, energy bars, granola bars, yogurt, and breads.

ZaccariaUSA specializes in supplying all of the equipment needed for a high quality Chia cleaning line.  Chia starts off passing by a magnet so that metals can be removed from the product stream.  This is important, as you don’t want any metals from the harvesting (nuts, bolts, etc) to end up in your machines or in your final product.

It is elevated next onto an air screen cleaner, which takes away any impurities lighter than the Chia such as dust or empty chia kernels.  The remaining seed is distributed uniformly over the top screen.

After the cleaner, the next machine in the series is a Destoner, which removes stones and dirt clods from the product stream.

The chia then goes over a gravity separator, which will remove impurities of different weight.  The heavier particles travel to the higher side while the lighter particles travel to the lower side.

Next, the Chia will go through a Color Sorter, which will remove any particles from the stream that don’t match the ideal finished product.  This is a necessary step prior to packaging to ensure that your final product is cohesive and attractive.

Whether you are looking for a single machine to add into your existing cleaning line, or for a full cleaning system, ZaccariaUSA can accomodate all of your chia cleaning needs.
