As I drank my cup of morning coffee today, I pondered about the best bit of business advice someone has ever received. Most of the tasks that we do in our business at ZaccariaUSA on a daily basis revolves around rice milling equipment, trying to figure out the best way to maximize a corn milling plant, or talking to new clients about how to get their start in the milling business.  This post isn’t going to be about that.  We aren’t going to discuss pre-cleaners, water polishers, or indented cylinders.  We are going to switch gears just a little bit.

Like many of my Gen-Xers, I consulted with “The Google” and awaited the results from my search submitted on business advice.  There were many good articles that came back with a plethora of information, but there were a few that stuck out to me.  I’ve always said that a business that isn’t moving forward is moving backward.  That’s true in the milling business, the farming business, and any other businesses out there.  In the spirit of sharing, here are the top 3 pieces of advice that really reminded me of where my focus should be.  I’ve included the links to the articles where I found these and would love to hear some of your favorites, too.

1) People Come First and Results Come Second.  When we stop to realize what drives people and who they truly are and take interest in them, that builds a relationship.  If you surround your business with great relationships at all levels, the trust formed is the foundation of a results based business.  www.businessinsider.com

2) You Only Get What You Settle For.  Henry Ford said that “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right.”  There is a huge difference between pursuing the dream and living the dream.  Once you find yourself living the dream, that’s where you’ve settled.  Until that day, the pursuit is on.  www.inc.com

3) Have The Courage To Live A Life True To Yourself.  We only get one shot at this life.  Trying to live day in and day out as someone else, someone that other people want you to be, will only make you tired and miserable.  Figure out who you are and what are the most important things to you and build your life around that.  Doing so will give you a fulfilled and joyous life.  www.inktank.fi

What is some of the best advice you’ve received?
